the birds and the bees

February 9, 2011

Since graduating college, I’ve been drawn to animals and insects- drawn to their patterns, habits, and nature. Specifically, I have been thinking about birds and bees (funny now that I think of the phrase “the birds and the bees,” seems awfully meaningful given my place in life currently). However, my sexual discoveries are not what I mean to discuss today. Today, I am pondering the lives of “lesser creatures”-it seems they have an understanding and peace about the world that us, “greater beings” can’t seem to grasp. I am talking about their ability to keep doing what they do- find food, find shelter, live in community and that is enough. They are not discontent with not having a better nest, a better hive; it is what it is. Birds don’t stop singing, bees don’t stop buzzing. Why is it so hard for me to see this too? I have so many things to be thankful for and recognize as wonderful gifts. First of all, my life is filled with beautiful people who love me and are there whenever I need them. I have two jobs and even though it’s hard to pay the bills sometimes, still somehow, I pull through every month. I have a roof over my head and a warm bed to sleep in every night. Not to mention, today the skies are clear and blue! Whenever I am down, I just have to remember the birds and the bees: to keep singing and buzzing through these precious days, in this temporal life, on this spinning earth.

I love this post. I can honestly say I look to the animals also when I start to worry. 🙂
